Every year many families
struggle to buy school supplies for their children. Starting Monday, July 15th
through Saturday, August 3rd, Mix 96.5 (WOXL) will launch the
inaugural “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive together with the Asheville Tourists
and Paramount Kia of Asheville that will include multiple events to support
Hands On Asheville-Buncombe’s Back to School Supply Drive.
Mix 96.5 will be on-site with
a big white school bus at the July 26th and July 31st
Asheville Tourists’ games. Fans are invited to donate school supplies and help
“Stuff the Bus.” Anyone bringing supplies will be given tickets to a future
Asheville Tourists game.
On Saturday, August 3rd,
Mix 96.5 will have the bus on-site from 11am – 1pm at Paramount Kia behind Biltmore
Square Mall and from 2 - 4pm at the Tunnel Road location to accept donations
for the supply drive. Anyone bringing a full backpack of supplies as detailed
by the Hands-On website will receive a $25 gift card to use for service or
accessories at either Paramount Kia location plus Paramount Kia will donate one
full backpack to the drive for everyone who test drives a vehicle during the
events.
Community members and
businesses can help by purchasing new backpacks and other needed items and bringing them to
one of these events or at drop off points like the United Way’s Community
Services Center at 50 South French Broad Avenue. For a complete list of needed
supplies and drop-off sites, visit www.Mix965Asheville.com
or www.handsonasheville.org
and click on the “Back-to-School Supply Drive” link.
All of the school supplies
will go to Hands On Asheville-Buncombe, the volunteer center of United Way, to
benefit local elementary and middle school students served by organizations
like Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC, Buncombe County Schools Foundation
Fostering Connections Program and Migrant Education Programs, Children
First/Communities in Schools, The Literacy Council of Buncombe County, Mountain
Area Child and Family Center, The Salvation Army, and programs within the YMCA.
Since 2007, the Hands On
Asheville-Buncombe Back to School Supply Drive has delivered more than 3,000
fully stocked back packs to area students in need, and this year the goal is to
add more than 700 to that total with the help of continued support from the
community. Hands On will also be accepting monetary donations at United Way’s
office or online at www.handsonasheville.org.
